Germany were beaten by Italy in the half final. Less than two hours after the game, the German blogs seem to have a positive approach to the outcome. I did not find many expressions of deep disapointment as I may have expected before surfing some blogs. Instead I found appriciation for the good performance of the team throughout the World Cup.

Hummer in Bavaria congratulates the Italian team and acknowledges that they deserved to proceed to the final. He also points out that Germany played extremely well throughout the tournament and up to the 118th minute of the half final. According to Hummer, that is more than anybody could have expected before the World Cup.

Also Netzblogger finds that Jürgen Klinsmann and his team deserve to be thanked. According to Netzblogger, it is not over as yet. The bronze final on Saturday will also be a game to be played.

German expatriate Daily Fraggle in Switzerland tunes a light note. He does not see the result as the end of the World. He points out that the German team still has a perspective to become third in the tournament after a good performance so far. And a chance to pay back to the Italians will open in the European Championship tournament in two years.

Arne in Wolfenbüttel goes even one step further. He is glad to be salvaged from the loud cheering fans expressing over enthusiastic patriotic feelings after the German wins so far. Arne is fed up with so called supporters who had little or no knowledge of football before the World Cup in domestic playgrounds.

Michael in Freilassing seems to sum up the collective feeling of the German blogosphere by quoting the good old song: “Always Look on the Bright Side of Life”. Which is, of course, a good piece of advice. Football is a great sport and the World Cup is a great event, no matter who wins.
