Blogging meme
Sunday, July 30, 2006 at 2:42 | Posted in Blogosphere, meme | 22 CommentsThomas threw this blogging related meme at me which I am trying to answer as truthfully as I can. The questions are in German but I am going to answer them in English. It would be too much of a challenge for me at this moment to write something in German that would at the same time be grammatically correct and factually accurate.
Here goes:
Warum bloggst du?
My memory is pretty good but unfortunately also very selective. By putting up in the web whatever feels like significant at the moment makes it so much easier to come back to a single incident later on. As a bonus I have also received some much appriciated feedback during the last year or so. It sometimes helps me put matters in another perspective that I may not have thought about.
Seit wann bloggst du?
It turns out that I wrote my first post in a blog (that is no longer active) on 14th November 2000.
Selbstportrait:
I have absolutely no drawing skills. I am going to look up a photo when posting this entry.

Warum lesen deine Leser dein Blog?
Obviously each for a different reason. Some of them may even drop a comment to this entry and disclose their own reasons.
I do not know which one was the latest. Some search arguments for today are “blogging linking rule”, “photo larko” (I wondwer who wanted to see that), “veneral disease”, “Margot Fischer-Weber”, “tallinn hooligans”, “att vara lycklig i livet”, “Okupatsioon”, “tasuta sms” and “soome tööle”. The last two are standing favourites in my Estonian blog although I have not covered free SMS messages for ages and there is very little about working in Finland in that blog.
Welcher Deiner Blogeinträge bekam zu Unrecht zu wenig Aufmerksamkeit?
This is a hard one to answer. First you would need to know what would be a proper amount of attention. Then you would need to figure out a post that deserved the attention but did not get it.
My Finnish blog is not read very much so I suppose all posts there could have received more attention than they did. And there has been absolutely no response to my plead to get some photographs for an exhibition planned on the 40th anniversary of the house I used to live in as a kid. The post is in the community blog of now middle aged gentlemen who lived there in 1960′ies and 1970′ies.
Dein aktuelles Lieblingsblog?
It would not be fair to point out any single blog. The reason I read any blog is that it is interesting in one way or another. I would obviously not read it otherwise.
Welches Blog hast du zuletzt gelesen?
I checked out the answers that Thomas and Andre have written to this meme.
67. I just counted them. I suppose I could unsubscribe one or two but most of them are being subscribed for a reason.
Let us see. It would be interesting to see the contribution of Thomas in WorstWriter. His blog is evidence enough that the title is very misleading.
Jaan in Ahjualune is a thinker in depth. As the blog title suggests, Jaan has a warm observation post by the fireplace.
Farlion is well known for his fantastic satirical approach. I wonder if he is going to apply it upon himself.
Last but not least, Christian in Vienna has had some rough time lately but he brilliantly managed to overcome a creational crisis caused by outsiders. I would very much like to see his contribution to this meme.
Those tagged should register their entries here with the ID 143112122 after posting.
Added: Links to all entries in this meme can be seen here, neatly organized in a tree. Thank you, Don, for tracking them!
P.S. If it looks like nothing happening for a while, you may need to click on the “alle aufklappen” link. The tree will appear eventually.

Maybe I’d better ask in english what happens if I post a comment in german. Well, what does happen now?
Comment by Andre Heinrichs— Sunday, July 30, 2006 #
Andre, what happens is that I am answering in English.
It is quite all right to post a comment in German. And it is not the first time either: none other than a well known Berlin webmaster generally known as CT did that once and I had a Deutsch-English exchange of opinions here, too.
Comment by Larko— Sunday, July 30, 2006 #
*schauder*
Wer will das jetzt babel-fischen?

That is one of the reasons I do not blog in German. If I tried to construct a German sentence that would accurately forward my opinion, it would genarate a lavine of laughter because of all those spelling and grammar errors. You would be surprised to know how long time I need for writing a short comment in your blog and others that I occasionally leave a comment in.
Comment by Larko— Sunday, July 30, 2006 #
So that’s why you didn’t (yet?) leave a comment in my blog?
But don’t try finnish on me, I don’t understand that
Comment by Andre Heinrichs— Sunday, July 30, 2006 #
Did I not?
At least I meant to but I may have fallen asleep before finishing the German sentence.
I think I linked to your blog at least once from my Estonian blog. That was when you published photos of somewhat casually parked cars.
Comment by Larko— Sunday, July 30, 2006 #
Well, I didn’t get any comment from you, so writing that might have been too tiring
The trackback was there allright, although I have my problems understanding your text.
Comment by Andre Heinrichs— Sunday, July 30, 2006 #
I did make almost an identical post in English as well.
Comment by Larko— Sunday, July 30, 2006 #
Oh, sorry, I didn’t see that one as I ddn’t see a trackback for that.
Comment by Andre Heinrichs— Sunday, July 30, 2006 #
The automatic pingback feature is sometimes anything but automatic.
Comment by Larko— Sunday, July 30, 2006 #
Pingback doesn’t really work with s9y on the other side. Trackbacks on the other hand often don’t really work from s9y to WP, too.
Comment by Andre Heinrichs— Sunday, July 30, 2006 #
Yes, I suppose a universal standard would be just too obvious as a goal so nobody even bothers to make an effort to achieve one. I’ll try to trackback your Stöckhen post manually and just see what happens.
Comment by Larko— Sunday, July 30, 2006 #
Standards? They’re great. There are so many to choose from. Or something of that kind.
Comment by Andre Heinrichs— Sunday, July 30, 2006 #
That is exactly where the problem is. Too many different standards rather than a single universal one. I particularly dislike the cute habbit of Windows closing my applications because of “illegal conduct” when all the application did was trying to perform the tasks I installed it for.

I just wanted to complain about the missing trackback to my posting but … there it is. Just a few hours late
Comment by TK— Sunday, July 30, 2006 #
Thomas, the automatic pingback did not work with your post either. I just added a manual trackback a few minutes ago at the same time with Andre’s post.
Comment by Larko— Sunday, July 30, 2006 #
Well, how do I say it? I don’t see a trackback to my Stöckchen-entry. Can it be you tried a pingback? Or shall I look into the spamfilter?
Comment by Andre Heinrichs— Sunday, July 30, 2006 #
All taht I know, Andre, is that I put up a trackback at your post the same time as I put up one to Thomas’s post. It went through to him but not to you. But I’ll try once more, just to be sure.
Comment by Larko— Sunday, July 30, 2006 #
*looks at spam log*
Nope, nothing filtered there.
But I should clean that one sometime next week.
Comment by Andre Heinrichs— Sunday, July 30, 2006 #
But it shows now. After one automatic pingback and two manual trackbacks the damned thing actually shows.
Comment by Larko— Sunday, July 30, 2006 #
Yep. I have a trackback received at 30.07.2006 20:19.
Comment by Andre Heinrichs— Monday, July 31, 2006 #
