Sleeping day after Socceroo game

Australia has not played in the World Cup for 32 years. The football fever jumped into high degrees after the green gold’s surprise 3-1 victory over Japan. Everything is set up for a fabulous night feast as Australia is about to meet the current champions Brazil today.

AFP writes that Australian businesses are encouraged to be generous with granting a day off for their employees tired after the game which takes place in the middle of night local time. The match is sceduled to kick off at 6 p.m. in Munich but at that point it will be 2 a.m. in Sydney.

ABL State Chamber, Australia’s largest business lobby group, said companies should be flexible and allow staff to take a rostered day off or a day’s leave. Regional manager Mary Doherty said doing so could foster goodwill between employees and management and boost workplace morale. “The World Cup has really brought a sense of camaraderie,” she told AFP. “People have united under the flag of green and gold.”

I do not want to spoil a good party for anybody down under. But my prediction is Brazil 3, Australia 1. Which would still leave the Aussies something to play about against Croatia.

And as long as we are talking about Brazil vs. Socceroo, here is a great joke about it (via punasedsilmad.org).
