Bad news in Christmas timeTuesday, December 26, 2006 at 16:42 | Posted in Media | Leave a comment

Much of the news we would not want to hear happens in Christmas time. It is understandable that a number of military operations tend to take place during the holidays when media coverage could be expected to be lower than usually. Oddly enough, also a number of natural disasters tend to occur during Christmas.
During holiday time in 1999, Russian president Boris Yeltsin authorized a massive military campaign against Chechnya. This holiday season has so far been taken advantage of by governments of USA, Britain, Ethiopia and Japan, at least. Each of those actions seem to have been timed in hopes of avoiding critical media attention.
While governments understandably act under tactical considerations, it is a mystery for me, how come the nature seems to do the same. People allover the World are commemorating the tsunami which killed 220.000 people and effected millions just two years ago. This year we hear about similar disasters albeit in smaller scale.
So many bad things happen during the holidays that one would almost hope they were cancelled. Which is also what I have done on a personal level. However, that is another story for quite opposite reasons. All of that is to be unfolded later.
