Funny video against censorship

I have unofficial information, that the German armed forces, the Bundeswehr, is not happy about this funny music video being visible in the Internet. Apparently, they have been placing preassure on YouTube and other video sharing sites and the video has on several occasions been taken down by the service providers. It has been uploaded and deleted on several rounds.
I uploaded it onto my YouTube account, just to oppose the concept of censorship. It is visible here untill it may eventually be deleted.
I also uploaded the video onto my Multiply account, visible here. And just to be on the safe side, the original file is accessible at my virtual server. Maybe the Bundeswhr should acknowledge that censoring the Internet is a hopeless enterprise doomed to fail.

Nice video, I can’t understand at all, what the Bundeswehr has against it. It’s even like guerilla marketing advertizing for the Bundeswehr. Maybe they have just a habbit of preventing any non-authorized info going out.
How can they understand, that censoring the internet is a useless idea, if they can’t even understand, that the war is a useless idea?

I suppose you know the British Army version of Is this the way to Amarillo? from a couple of years ago (also on youtube). I think there was more than one version, not all British either. I don’t think there was any attempt to censor that, but maybe I’m wrong.

MM, you must be referring to this video. More than 190.000 watches, almost 700 comments and being marked as a favorite by more than 1400 users, trying to censor it would not be a good idea.
Marcel, maybe the Bundeswehr are just pretending to want it off to add up the popularity? They are definitely not going to succeed in anything other than making it a video everybody wants to see.

Yes, that’s it. It’s a year or two old now, but I suspect it was very popular too soon for anyone to do anything about it. I had a quick Google to see what official reactions were, and I found out that the video crashed the Ministry of Defence computers in 2005. But the MoD praised the video. BBC News

This definitely confirms that uploading sites, such as YouTube are a better way of spreading a video than e-mailing it. Unfortunately, though, YouTube seems to have a problem with the concept of freedom of speech. This was the second time they purged a video I uploaded. Imposing the narrowest American chastity standards on everybody is a counter productive activity.

But I forgot that the British Army video predated youtube. It was circulated by email and someone put it on a website. Youtube didn’t exist at the time.

Quite a lot of older stuff has been posted, like this footage of the Baltic chain on 23rd August 1989. Even old VHS videos can be converted to DVD and then uploaded.

Yes, of course. (That’s a great video). I often look for older stuff there. But what I meant was that the situation was different – it took longer for that video to be circulated than it did for the German one.

You are absolutely right about that, Margaret. The German video had not the same chance to build up its popularity because it was being censored at the early stages of its life cycle. The reason is something I still do not understand.
