Likeability vs. issues

If it is true that likeability is as important as this Reuters news clip suggests, what does that tell about the American voters? I give a dam whether I like a candidate or not, what counts is the sort of issues a candidate stands for. Then again, maybe this tells more about the campaign designers than about voters. Campaigns make an effort to wrap their candidates into a “likeable” package but voters seem to put more value on experience.
