Congress shall make no law disrespecting an establishment of a saloon, or prohibiting the free exploitation thereof; or abridging the freedom to drink, or to brew beer; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble in a drinkhole, and to enjoy the beverages to obtain redress of grievances.
Commercials are not what you would be likely to see in North Korean TV and never before has the Central Television run a beer ad. The clip is a piece of crap but I would definitely like to taste the beer.
Did I already mention the Christmas beer blog photo contest that Alan and Jeff are running? I guess I did. Anyways, I just learned from Alan that the guys have uploaded all entries received so far in a Flickr group (a slide show version here). Having seen all those pictures I am speechless. Unlike myself, some guys sure know how to shoot pictures. Then again, I know how to drink beer (not that I would doubt that everybody else does, too).
Can’t wait to see the rest of those fantastic beer piccies.
Jeff and Alan (a.k.a Stonch’s Beer Blog and A Good Beer Blog) are running their annual Christmas beer blog photo contest. The idea is to collect beer related photos. Not that I would know anything about photography but I entered my contribution (above) just to support the cool idea.
According to Alan, there are currently more prizes than pictures contesting them but there is still plenty of time to change that. All you need to do is to send your beer photo(s) to both email@example.com and firstname.lastname@example.org by 14th December 2008 at 2100 UTC. You will need to mention your full name and postal address which the guys promise to withhold from everybody else but the appropriate prize contributor if you happen to be one of the winners.
If you happen to have something to give away as a prize, I am sure that Jeff and Alan will be happy to hear of you as well.
Beer is good for your health. I did indeed fake the cover.
Only an amateur would not have a bottle opener at hand all the time but let us assume yours was just stolen. You have a bottle of beer and you desperately want to drink it. How to open the bottle?
No problem! All you need is a piece of paper. 🙂
Get me a beer or I won’t write ahead!
Knut Albert advices that some Nowegian pubs ask as much as 10 € for a 0,5 liter portion of lager beer. And strange as it may sound, most people are happy to pay. A beer lover’s nightmare!
One would think that with a beer price like that Norway would be bound to be on the door step of a revolution. Either that or people must have a well developed culture of brewing their beer at home. Asking 10 € for a beer may be smart business but paying such a price is just crazy.
This just in from Reuters:
SYDNEY (Reuters) – An Australian man convicted of his seventh drink-driving charge was spending about A$1,000 ($972) a week on beer — enough to buy more than 2,500 small bottles a month, a newspaper said Tuesday.
I would be happy to match if I had the money to spend. And access to as cheap beer!

Kenyans are honoring their favorite son and celebrating his latest successes in presidential primaries by drinking loads of Senator beer, nicknamed as Obama beer.

This is the current standing in a National Beer Wholesalers Association vote: “Which presidential candidate would you rather have a beer with in 2008?” No voter registration is required and your real ID is not going to be checked but you must stipulate that you are of legal drinking age.
Barack Obama seems to have a commanding lead over the runner up Ron Paul. Worse off are Mike Gravel and Duncan Hunter.
I cast a ballot, too, although I am not eligible to vote in the actual US presidential election or the primaries.

Germans drink less beer this year than they did last year, Reuters reports. The average consumption per capita this year is estimated as 112,5 liters which is 3,5 liters less than 2006. The decline has steadily continued since the top consumption of 156 liters in the 1980’ies.
2006 was the only year since 1998 when consumption increased. However, that must have been thanks to foreign guests at the football World Champ tournament. Germans are far behind Czech Republic and Ireland in drinking beer.
All of this makes me concerned of the health of my German friends. And puts me under a special obligation to drink that much more these last days of 2007. Just to balance the book as an act of solidarity.
Feel like having a beer or three?

My good colleague and co-author of Blogwatch.eu, Peter Roskothen has spent the last couple of weeks with his hand plastered in a gypsum. He has broken a knuckle and the gypsum needs to stay for another few weeks.
So Peter needs to take it easy for a while. My wishes of a speedy recovery are being supported by this brief message:Vodpod videos no longer available.
