An affront to common sense

Friday, August 13, 2010 at 22:07 | Posted in Freedom of speech | Leave a comment

I discovered through a tweet by @DustyTrice (retweeted by @VilluiArrak) that the Ultra Conservative American political fart factory known as The Tea Party has produced this intellectually pervert statement, mouthed by Jaime Radtke, chairwoman of the Virginia Tea Party Patriot Federation. Ms Radtke apparently hates the concept of net neutrality because she thinks it is “an affront to free speech and free markets”.

Given that net neutrality is very much about free speech and free access to free speech, all I can conclude is that the frog that just jumped out of a Tea Party mouth is an affront to common sense.

President 2.0 – Government 1.0

This man may well be a president 2.0. Unfortunately he is still running a government 1.0 😛

I am half weirdo

Thursday, June 3, 2010 at 0:22 | Posted in web tests | Leave a comment

I seem to be just half weirdo. Would have preferred a higher score 😛 )

You Are 52% Weirdo

You’re definitely quite strange, but you can act like a normal person when you have to.

(But just because you can act normally, it certainly doesn’t mean you want to!)

You have normal aspects to your personality… but you usually don’t choose to emphasize them.

1st amendment to the constitution

Sunday, May 2, 2010 at 22:47 | Posted in civil rights, Freedom of speech | Leave a comment

Just a reminder, regardless if you are a republican or a democrat:

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

I’ll drink for that 🙂

I trust this guy

It is easy to say that all politics and all government is bad and should not exist. Well, how about murdering your neighbour because there was no law to prohibit killing a neighbour? Or would you like your wife, sister, or daughter to be raped because there is no government to enforce a law that says it is a crime?

Most of my American friends who oppose president Obama have said that they want less government. I tend to agree with my friends. Not only America but most countries in the World need less government.

We Europeans need either less or more powers to be handed to a European government. If the European commission wants to get more to say about, we need a democratic union, whereby all of the present 27 member countries are all but states. It would be democratic but probably not politically correct, far less possible to achieve.

I do not even remember the name of the guy who is supposed to be the president of Europe. Why should I? He has nothing to say and nothing to say about.

I do know that I like president Obama. That guy I trust 🙂

Briefly about German web censorhip

Monday, January 25, 2010 at 17:42 | Posted in censorship, Freedom of speech, Germany, internet | 2 Comments

New regulations are being discussed (via @doppelfish) in Germany about mouth gagging free speech in the Internet. My brief photographic comment about the proposed measures is as follows:

Talking about ideas

Monday, January 25, 2010 at 17:26 | Posted in web tests | 2 Comments

This would be a pretty accurate description. I would indeed talk about ideas. That is if there are any around. And if I would like to talk at all.

You Love to Talk About Ideas

You like your conversations to be deep and meaningful. You are not a big fan of small talk.

You are open to all sorts of conversation topics, especially if they are unique or interesting. You love it when a conversation takes you somewhere unexpected.

You will talk about anything, even if it’s controversial or weird. You aren’t shy about speaking your mind.

You may shock people with what you’re willing to talk about, but at least it’s more interesting than discussing the weather.

Red love

Tuesday, January 19, 2010 at 4:11 | Posted in Not serious, web tests | Leave a comment

You may think so but I could not possibly comment.

Your Love Is Red

When you love someone, your love is intense and dramatic. For you, love is passion.

You enjoy seducing someone and being seduced. You like feeling romantically overwhelmed.

You’re the type of person who loves whoever you want, and you’re often drawn toward forbidden love.

You are also stubborn about getting the person you’re interested in to fall for you. You love chasing after what you want.

Google are keeping their word

Thursday, January 14, 2010 at 1:17 | Posted in censorship, China, google, internet | Leave a comment

As Google announced yesterday they are no longer going to censor their search results at Google.cn. I can now present evidence that they are worth their word, regardless what the real reason behind their decision was and regardless that I still have trouble understanding that they agreed to censor the results in the first place:

Respect!

I am supposed to be sunset

Tuesday, January 12, 2010 at 0:54 | Posted in web tests | Leave a comment

This quiz says I am sunset. While that is often when I wake up (regardless of what time of the year it may be, hence anytime between 3 p.m and 11 p.m) I am not sure I would agree. However, the description is not totally wrong.

You Are Sunset

Even though you still may be young, you already feel like you’ve accomplished a lot in life.

And you feel free to pave your own path now, and you’re not even sure where it will take you.

Maybe you’ll pursue higher education in a subject you enjoy – or travel the world for a few years.

Either way, you approach life with a relaxed, open attitude. And that will take you far!

I have never bothered to publish my relationship status in Facebook, nor in Twitter (it is currently single if you must know) but Dana Hanna obviously thinks it is important to keep it updated. Congrats 🙂

A Baltic vision

In this clip the Estonian president Toomas Hendrik Ilves uses five minutes efficiently by putting into a nutshell how the three Baltic countries, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania have changed and how the whole World has changed during the last 20 years. He appeared together with his Latvian and Lithuanian counterparts in Riga in the final session of Transatlantic Agenda 2010 A Baltic Vision.

Differences or not?

Wednesday, October 14, 2009 at 6:51 | Posted in languages, Not serious | 3 Comments

I am quoting Secretary Clinton according to the US State Department’s official blog (Boldface added by me.):

This follows on the work that we began over the last many months to transform the relationship between our two countries, to find common ground wherever we can, to further mutual respect and mutual interests, without in any way accepting the fact that there are not differences between us, because there are.

Wait a minute! I know that diplomatic language is tricky but this one takes the cake. There are three statements in the last boldfaced part of the sentence which are partly contradicting each other. Namely:

  1. It is a fact that there are “not differences between us“, i.e. Russia and USA.
  2. Russia and USA do not accept that fact.
  3. There are differences between Russia and USA.

So would somebody please explain whether there are differences or not and if there are not, do the two countries accept it or not. Or do they accept that there are differences but pretend there are not?
